Bring your weapons

Kick me where the sun

Shines and where it doesn’t

Abuse me with sticks and stones

Or wound me with harms

Harsher than those aforementioned words

Bend me in ways the wind cannot blow

Crash over me with the weight of a wave from the River Styx

Take me into the light and blow the candles out

Turn me into the horizon

Bring your weapons

I’ll bring my lips

And a mouth full of eight letters

This Year

I found love

To be

A boomerang

An onion

Peeling slowly

Down to its core

I found eyes

The color of soil

Crystal balls

I found peace

In the chameleon

In the smallest crab

Changing its shell again

I found more downs

Than ups         more

Floods than fires

More falls than

This next year

I’ll forget all about this year

Save for the finding of

In the emperor’s new clothes

We conquer

You                              the land

Me                                the sea

In unison

We wilt

Like Rome

We are rebuilt in a day

We were never

We levitated beyond

Those crumbling promises of stone

Like magicians            dancing under the cherry moon

To the howls of some beasts trapped inside a fairy tale

No stars fell into our eyes

No arrows or teeth pierced our skin

No clocks were stopped

We climbed into

An hourglass

To find our hearts

Before misplacing them

Amongst a dune

Sediments composed of

Walls, lines, masks, shrouds

Objects that could never be blown into glass

And yet we blew each other onto

The sands of matrimony

Distancing ourselves from the brewed nebulas of time

So as to swim through the primordial concoctions of intent

Whatever ocean wishes to feast upon our shores

Better not be of this Earth.

This I Believe

I believe in

Picture frames

As shelter for memories

I believe in

To hate and war

I believe in

Deafness to

Dumb words

I believe in

Weighing intelligence

Not gravity

I believed in

Until divinity

I believed

In Zeus

Until heresy

I believed in

Until literacy

I believed in

Until trinity

I believed in

Until his butchery

I believed in

Until it became holey

I believed in

Until you showed me

Your City

Day and night

Like a Roman fire

In a temple.

Virgin hands

Never could

Keep such flames ablaze

Even with a pyramid of wood.

Will that passionate warmth

Evaporate the oncoming waves

Into a plethora of moist hisses

Or will your city flood

Like Atlantis?

This traveler

Explores but

Is no navigator

If your walls drown

If your fire cools

I, too, will extinguish.

I  wait for:

Gravity to weigh down

Your heart

Age to scribble

Its signature on your face

Sun to

Your skin.

I wait  for:

You to forget

How to stand

Again and again

Loitering with me

Around a fall.

I am waiting for:

Time to ferment

I can always

Find more reasons to hang around.
