You Should Know

I still love you           like the pen loves the ink or always loves time

I still need you         like the atom needs the electron or tomorrow needs today

I still want you          like the grass wants the green or the song wants ears

I still miss you          like the finger misses the ring or the paper misses the tree

I still wish you would stay like the ice wishes for the cold to prevail

Will you marry me?

“A man is not made for defeat […] a man can be destroyed but not defeated.” – Ernest Hemingway (The Old Man and the Sea)

Those obese lies

Disguised in love

Left my ticker

Set to explode

Into what it was

Before it existed

Yet even the skinniest leftover

Will regenerate it.

For You

“There comes a time when you have to stop crossing oceans for people who wouldn’t jump puddles for you.” – Anon.

I would have

Like Medea

Cut my brother into pieces and

Scattered his remains

I would have

Like Cronus

Eaten my own

I would have

Like Icarus

Flown toward the sun

With waxed wings

I would have

Like Sisyphus

Pushed the boulder

Up the hill forever

I would have

Like Prometheus

Stolen the gods’

I would have

Like Ajax

Fallen upon

My own sword

I would have

If only you had

Crossed that puddle

For me.

Out Of Nothing

You came

To unbuild my walls

Break my stick into bars

Stretching my heart into some shape close to a triangle.

No longer can I feed off myself

Because I’m hungry

Only for

I am neither the last of my kind

Nor the first

A man with the mind of a monkey

Evolving for a fall

Not even Time could survive.

I have:

No voice

No past

No future.

I cannot

Hear sounds

See colors.

I am just a clown:

Never to be remade.

Out of nothing

You came

Yet with something

You knocked me off the clouds.

The loved get more lovable; the unloved get more unlovable.

are the sentence without a period

The movement in the puddle after the rains

The scent that lingers when the scent is gone

The oxygen for the oxygen

The letters that spell out the word love

The one thing I’ll never leave behind
