Once you straddle my world
so sweet, the boundaries fall in
while each limit expands
with sighs of mused pleasure.

I am lost in our incense
our buffet of appetites
we feast on the pulp
from our ripened fruits.

This flesh and wine
have melted as one
and we linger and bask
as we pluck and press
every cherry.

Riding every wave
until we meet
upon the shores
of a pink-sanded beach.

I learned to swim
the waves of love
through loss of self
writ by your touch.

This ocean lures
my longing soul
to drown itself
in sweetness deep.

My blood is yearning
to be crushed
within these walls
of gentle need.

My mouth will travel
to tasteful land until
it reaches a sunset strip
along the shore.

Our first words
were not a sentence
containing eight letters
as written in love’s history.

Our first words
were not sprinkled with
pixie dust or
coated in sugar.

Our first words
had the weight of
a puppy, the sound of
a thousand sparks
covered with kisses.

Our first words
had the smell of
wildflowers melting
with desire.

Our first words
were the pulsating hearts
and heat through our veins
scribing the dance
that was to follow.

I watched you from afar
with shy eyes and a beating heart
I wondered if you, too, felt like a mermaid
unable to move your legs upon solid ground?

I imagined I saw clouds between us
some of them looked like steps
others like steam releasing
from the sigh of love itself.

My faced turned the color
of a dying star when
our eyes locked and
there was no key
to pull our stares apart.

Can anyone else see this
explosion of romantic confetti?
Are we the only ones floating
among the falling kisses of love?

It was a simple task to forget you:
I simply remembered you.

Why We Failed

You cannot build
a relationship
out of
wood.

Better yet

You cannot
build a relationship
out of
wood and water.

Eventually
the water infuses
the wood and
turns it into
a pile of
warped
mold and mildew.

We built our relationship
out of wood and water
and that is why
we failed.

I think (last night)
I wanted
To forget our
Relational existence

I wished (last night)
That you were
The stars
Burning in the distance.

I prayed (last night)
God needed you
Up there more
Than down here.

I dreamed (last night)
We were
Strangers and
I awoke
In an emotional river.

I hoped (last night)
The current from
That river
Would carry me
Farther away from you.

I’m sorry (tonight)
For telling the world
What I thought of
Last night
Before I told you.
