The Puppet Master

How many strings do you control
With those delicate hands?
How many stuffed puppets
Hollow of soul, heart, and mind
Do you move only to please your whims?

What I’ll never figure out
Is if those are just puppets you control
Or if those puppets were once human beings.

  1. Miranda Stone says:

Very sinister portrayal of a narcissist, Benjamin. That first stanza is particularly strong.

  2. F.G.M. says:

At a metaphysical level of interpretation, God (or our deeper self) is severely questioned, with powerful metaphors… it reminds me of a french song, “le marrionnetiste”… “mais qui es-tu Marionnetiste” – Puppet Master: who are you? But interpretations are always a reflect of our own conjectures… maybe it was not your first intention! Anyway, a very beautiful work!

  3. amoafowaa says:

    Beautiful questions for the deceptive.

  4. Lisa says:

    I’ve asked that question, myself…

  5. Wow. Those are all great questions, Benjamin. I do wonder where these thoughts come from, you know. My mind goes a few directions with this poem. Well done.

  6. Wow… Intense. Great piece!

I really like this one. It is amazing what one sly (maybe pretty girl?) person can do. An abuse of power. A ‘taking advantage of’ a situation to meet one’s own needs. Quite selfish I’d say.
I’m thinking you’re speaking from personal experience. And I’m sorry for that.
    Great piece here Benjamin.

Yes, personal experience unfortunately. But always time to learn from the past. And perhaps I was a willing puppet and knew what the puppet master was doing all along and just didn’t care. Or, maybe I was actually in control without the puppeteer realizing. Though maybe those are just dreams and desires. Thanks for the comments πŸ™‚
